U.S. Congressional Candidate Allies with Pro-Communist Overseas Chinese Group, Trampling on Memory of June 4, 1989 Pro-Democracy Protests and Tiananmen Square MassacreMa Li Ke (edited by DCB editorial team) – Radio Free Asia – February 17, 2022In the aftermath of the June 4, 1989 military crackdown in Tiananmen Square, Xiong Yan, a former student protest leader who was named on Beijing’s most wanted student protest leader list after the crackdown, and newly announced candidate for U.S. Congress in the state of New York, on February 16, 2022 personally appeared at a New York “pro-communist” Overseas Chinese community “Campaign Against the Establishment of a ‘June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Memorial Museum.’”

In June 2021, Xiong Yan retired as a Chinese chaplain in the United States Army, and decided to become a candidate for U.S. Congress in the state of New York. In October 2021, Xiong Yan said he could not speak anti-communist language in public, and has been in contact with the “pro-communist” Overseas Chinese community in New York ever since.

The organizer of the February 16, 2022 event was a Chinese group claiming to be “calling for Overseas Chinese unity in a time of pandemic, and opposing divisive communities.” Photographs leaked from the venue showed a podium in the banquet hall with a wall of red captions reading “June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Memorial Museum in New York.” Former student protest leader of the 1989 pro-democracy movement, Xiong Yan, appeared on the podium with a smile, surrounded by “pro-communist” Overseas Chinese community leaders.

The organizer of the event, Zheng Shi Gan aka Jimmy Cheng – a New York based “pro-communist” Overseas Chinese community leader – is the former president of the Fujian Institute of the United States and currently a member of the People’s Republic of China government’s Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of Fujian Province. In his speech at the meeting, he equated “organizing the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Memorial Museum in New York” with “disrupting community unity” and “engaging in racial division.” This demonstrates clearly his “pro communist” political stance.

Wang Dan, the “number one” on the list of 21 most wanted student protest leaders after the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Square military massacre, and now the founder of Dialogue China, said that as the convener of the Preparatory Committee for the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Memorial Museum, he met with more than 50 overseas pro-democracy activists and June 4 military crackdown survivors in New York on January 10, 2022 to initiate the establishment of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Memorial Museum.

Wang Dan believes that Xiong Yan is now openly opposing the commemoration of the June 4, 1989 massacre, which causes deep heartache, is incomprehensible and unacceptable.

Wang Dan explained that the idea of establishing the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Memorial Museum in New York was the result of seeing the June 4th Museum in Hong Kong forcibly closed by the Chinese Communist authorities. The history and memory of the June 4, 1989 military crackdown must not be weakened by the closure of the Hong Kong museum. So the idea was proposed of rebuilding it in New York, an international metropolis with a high concentration of people from all over the world. The reconstruction of the June 4 Museum requires a large number of volunteer workers, and the initial effort is being pressured by overseas Chinese Communist agents, and the two forces are in a head to head battle.【Back to TopPolicy2. Behind the Illusion of “Imperial Power Does Not Go Down to the County,” How Does the State Power Get Through the Last Mile?Zhao Xudong – Folklore Research – January 22, 2022Why Read This?
The two dimensions of traditional Chinese grassroots society – the ordinary and the extraordinary – and the control of state power together form the overall structure of the dynamics of grassroots society. The unsettling regularity of the extraordinary state often leads to the opening of doors, such as during natural disasters, when state power penetrates into the grassroots in various ways. However, Chinese political traditions do not generally go to extremes, and people’s lives seek a balance between the two states of change, which is the norm in the life cycle.(Read the full text

The global mobility of sports talent is a significant trend of our time. In the recent Winter Olympics, some naturalized athletes and coaches from other countries were thrown into the whirlpool of public opinion, triggering both domestic and international controversies and even cyber violence. In addition to what is right and wrong, it is important to see the role that the dynamics of national border awareness can play and to think about how to define a country’s borders in the age of immigration.(Read the full text

Back to topFinance and Business5. The Great Escape of Independent Corporate Directors, the End of an Era!Jiang Hu Da Da – Wall Street Club – November 22, 2021Why Read This?
Independent directors are directors who are independent of shareholders and do not work for the company and make independent judgments on corporate matters. The independent director system has been developed in the Chinese securities market for more than 20 years, but it has not fulfilled its responsibilities. Although listed companies belong to all shareholders, the hiring of independent directors is the decision of the management. The fundamental reason for this is that in China, there is no punishment mechanism for independent directors who are not diligent and responsible; on the contrary, if they are loyal and responsible, they will offend the management and lose their jobs. From now on, independent director is no longer a decoration, nor is it a risk-free profession to make money lying down.(Read the full text

Behind the Dark Net of Blood Not Only Did Not Break, but Also More HiddenZhou An’an – Beijing Cultural Review – February 10, 2022Why Read This?
Recently, a 1997-born employee of an Internet company died suddenly during the Spring Festival shift, triggering widespread concern. As the world enters the “digital age”, various forms of Internet economic models are gradually emerging, and “labor” itself is also undergoing huge changes.
